ST MICHAELS WARD

Location: Hackney, London

Programme: 6 Months

Description: Ward Refurbishment

Size: 9000sqft

PROJECT

Thornwood proudly secured this crucial refurbishment project following a competitive tender process run by Julian Church Associates, the client's QS/PM.

We worked diligently with the client team to deliver the work within a live, operating hospice to ensure minimal disruption to their day-to-day operations.

The works included the full strip-out of the ward, allowing for a comprehensive refit and remodelling to bring it up to current healthcare standards.

The ward was successfully delivered and officially blessed and opened by the Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Vincent Nichols

We have been humbled by the sheer amount of positive feedback from the hospice, from the board of directors to the critical care staff providing the front line of care.

Overall, the project has been a complete success, and we are confident that it will remain a place of welcome, care and comfort for many years to come.

'We were really delighted with our relationship with Thornwood.

I have to say that in my role, getting the builders in and having them in for almost six months is very daunting, and I was really worried about how relationships would be. Also, a hospice is quite a special place and a sensitive site.

Clearly, the builders were using the common parts at times, interacting with people, and everybody who worked with the team was polite, courteous and well-mannered and remembered that sensitivity.

The site manager is probably one of the best people I've ever worked with.

The other thing about Thornwood is its real desire and passion to deliver what is promised to the customer. It seems to really matter to them personally that I'm happy as a customer and that we, as St Joseph's Hospice, have got the product we want, and I think that's really exceptional; I've never met that before."
